The inner geek comes out of me once a year at the fantastic ComiCon event in Birmingham. I am always massively overwhelmed by the amount of effort some go to with their costumes and this year was no exception
We arrive 10 minutes before doors opened and our ticket was scanned and we went straight through ... or so we thought. After being delighted at not having to queue for over an hour to get in like last year we were promptly faced with a snaking array of people waiting to get through the final gates. We got tricked into a false sense of excitement after their clever positioning of the ticket scanning barriers - but 15 minutes later and we were through.
The exhibition seemed somewhat smaller this year and although the layout was great - it did feel that quite a few exhibitors were missing.
We went as a slightly bigger group this year and it felt a lot busier than previous years so we did end up losing each other a few times. Plus we didn't seem to have a structure for aisle browsing - always have a structure!
The layout was fabulous and I loved how all the signings were together which meant no one was missed out. I was very lucky to get a personal wave from Liv Tyler as I stood in the crowd hoping for a photo. She looked stunning and was completely down to earth as she signed photos for those who were waiting in line. What a lady!m
My favourite part was the stall that was dedicated to playstation and I found myself reliving my teenage years with games like Rayman 2, Crash Bandicoot and Micro Machines, which my husband distracted himself with N64 games like Donkey Kong. You would be amazed how much these games can sell for now.
I always love seeing what others were buying, and as expected POP dolls and comic books were the favourites. It was also great seeing the beautiful drawings that some were displaying, and how talented many are.
We left ComiCon around 4pm so we spent around 5 hours there. I would really recommend heading along to one of these if you get the chance if you love comics, superheroes and films - it is a great day and fab for children!
Were you there? What did you think?
